Viola Grace Lorenz, age 90, of Dover, died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover.




A daughter of Dan and Mary Ott, Viola was born at Malvern, Ohio on February 25, 1920.




Viola graduated from Newcomerstown High School and would go on to work for a period of time at Snyder Manufacturing then located at New Philadelphia and would later work as a Licensed Nursing Practitioner at Massillon State Hospital ultimately retiring in 1977.




On June 5, 1938, Viola married Bernard Lorenz and would share more than fifty years of marriage prior to his passing on November 28, 1991. Together the couple would rear four children.




For a number of years they would relocate to the Massillon area and then to the Leesville Lake region. Additionally, they enjoyed wintering in Florida and had traveled to 49 of the 50 states as well as Canada.



In her spare time Viola enjoyed crocheting, sewing and shopping but most importantly enjoyed cooking.





Viola will be missed by her family that includes two sons, Reuben B. (Patricia) Lorenz of Dover and Larry R. (Verla) Lorenz of Massillon; two daughters, Marilyn Zahner of Sugarcreek and Carolyn (Thomas) Border of Navarre; and three half sisters, Mary (Forrest) Hicks, Zelma (Amos) Green, and Janice (Al) Nunley.




Sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.




In addition to her parents, and husband, Viola was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Zahner and a half brother, Ralph Slack.




The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Paul Houdashelt will lead a service celebrating Viola's life on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM in Grace Community Church at Stone Creek. Burial will follow in Stone Creek Cemetery.




Following services the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall where a lunch and fellowship will be shared.



The family requests that memorial contributions in Viola's name be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622 or to Grace Community Church, PO Box 97, Stone Creek, Ohio 43840.
